4. FES 310™ – Conductivity Values & Pad Placement – Lesson/Quiz
Note: The following content corresponds with pages 16 through 24 of the manual.

Setup
- Attach the surcingle (the strap that helps secure the system to the horse).
- Ensure the area where you’ll place the electrodes is dry.
Note: Wet surfaces prevent the electrodes from sticking properly. - Secure the neck harness on the horse by placing the Velcro tie on the neck harness around the mane approximately at the middle of the neck.
- Organize the neck harness wires so that the WHITE, BROWN, and BLACK wires are on one side of the neck and the GREEN, BLUE, and RED wires are on the other side of the neck. The groups of wires are separated at the connector end.
- Place the self-stick electrodes on the neck at the desired placement and tape them into place. Make sure the electrodes are placed symmetrically on each side of the neck.
Pad Placement
Back Pad Placement The back pad can be placed at any point on the top line from behind the withers to the base of the tail.
Leg Pad Placement The leg pad can be placed on the lower leg below the knee, hock, upper forearm, or gaskin.
Notes:
• Always treat both legs even if only one leg is of concern. Treat the non-injured leg first to obtain the voltage and conductivity parameters.
• DO NOT place any electrodes near the carotid artery. Use care when placing an electrode close to the poll or on the face.
• DO NOT place an electrode in the ventral thoracic area close to the heart.
Quiz Notes
The short practice knowledge quiz that follows is based on the information provided here and in your manual. This quiz is timed but not graded. Each question must be answered before advancing to the next question.
Note: Some of the questions in this quiz will also be included on the final Exam at the end of the course.
