8. FES 310™ – Troubleshooting – Lesson/Quiz

Troubleshooting
The FES 310™ employs functional electrical stimulation to facilitate muscle recovery and improve muscle tone without additional strain, making it particularly suitable for equine rehabilitation. Proper maintenance of this device is crucial to ensure the safety of the horse and the technician.
The following key points are important to consider when inspecting or troubleshooting your device:
- Alcohol can melt carbon electrodes.
- Always treat the back first. Never treat the neck without doing the back within 3 sessions.
- Ensure the gold pin is fully inserted.
- Check the gold pins at the connection to ensure they are aligned straight, not bent or spread out.
- Set the device for 20 minutes and increase the current to 9 volts. The channels should read 9 volts for each electrode. Then, decrease the current to 5 volts for all electrodes.
- It is normal for the horse to have contractions on the neck before readings are displayed on the device.
- DO NOT plug the cable in if there if any moisture is present. Moisture will short the system.
